Sir Henry McMahon

  • British high commissioner in Egypt from 1914-1916
    • He was also an administrator in British India and served twice as Chief Commissioner of Balochistan.
  • During his time in Egypt, his responsibilities included mobilizing war material from Egypt for Britain's efforts during World War I
  • Representing the British government, he promised Hussein to support his bid for the restoration of the Caliphate in the Arab world if Arab leader supported the British fight against Turkey.
