Gabriele D'Annunzio was a writer, dramatist, and great political leader in Italy in the early 1900's. D'Annunzio was a big supporter of Italy entering World War 1 and when they did he returned to Italy from France to fight in the air force. When the war ended he was furious with the Treaty of Versailles,so he and 300 of his supporters invaded the port of Fiume, which was given to Yugoslavia in the treaty. His efforts raised the desire to keep the port and the Italians regained it in 1924. More importantly, however, D'Annunzio and his supporter showed that groups of people in Italy were ready to take the law into their own hands.
